WHY BREASTFEED?

You maybe reading this whilst pregnant or you may have had your baby and be wondering why you should persevere with breastfeeding!

I would love to take a moment to encourage you about the amazing properties of breastfeeding, its health benefits for baby, you and future generations and why you will never regret pushing through the hard times! Please know that there is always non-judgmental support available, and I would love to talk to you about it and help you work through any difficulties you are facing.

I believe that breastfeeding is one of the most important health benefits we can give our children and ourselves. I am constantly amazed at the unique composition of breastmilk and its power to protect. It’s also free and is very environmentally friendly!

BENEFITS FOR YOUR BABY.

  • The most important benefit of colostrum in the first few days is setting up baby defences. Its like baby first immunisations. There are huge amounts of white blood cells in colostrum that give babies antibodies to everything the mother has been exposed to.

  • Breastmilk is very gentle on baby’s gut and is perfectly designed to encourage meconium to pass through.

  • Breastmilk contains bifidobacteria and oligosaccharides to encourage the proliferation of the gut. This encourages healthy bacteria to thrive.

  • Breastfeeding encourages more skin to skin with mother, this encourages the transfer of the more healthy bacteria which improve gut health for the baby.

  • Breastmilk is a live product, it changes daily according to baby’s needs this cannot be replicated by formula products

  • It contains a large amount of live products that baby needs to grow and thrive, these encourage brain development.

  • Breastfeeding reduces the risks of SIDS, gastroenteritis, respiratory infections, allergies, obesity, type 1&2 diabetes and NEC.

  • Breastmilk changes taste according to what the mother eats this helps with weaning and encouraging baby to try different tastes.

BENEFITS FOR YOU.

  • Due to the production of Oxytocin for breast-feeding Mothers feel reduced stress levels, reduced pain sensitivity, reduced blood pressure, improvement in sleep and it can boost the immune system.

  • It helps create a very strong bond with baby and encourages more skin to skin contact.

  • It helps to reduce the risk of Ovarian cancer, breast cancer, hip fractures and heart disease.
